Call and Response

The cry of our heart is usually in response to something – pain, loss, achievement, healing. There is a call and response that takes place within the depths of our being. So to, is our relationship with the Lord. We respond, not out of compulsion, but rather, His unrelenting love.

The psalmist put it beautifully in Psalm 42:7a, “Deep calls to deep at the sound of your waterfalls.” Truly as He pours out His love for us, touching those delicate spaces, our heart cannot help but respond in adoration and worship.

It would seem too, that as this call-and-response continues, the revelation of His love deepens and our finite understanding expands. Oh, to feel the wonder of His love flowing to the abyss of our beings. Oh, to know but an inch of His undefinable love.

It is from this place that the cry of our hearts can truly be uttered. The real voice of our soul can finally cry out, “Abba, Father!” Sonship can finally be realized.

We can do nothing to gain His affection because it is already there. We can do nothing to keep His affection because it was never ours to obtain. All that we can do is respond. Respond and be filled. Be filled in the depths of our beings and allow the waves of His eternal love to wash away all that would make us believe He doesn’t care or He is not there.

This is not a momentary feeling but a permanent reality for all those who would pursue His heart in return, who would respond to His love call. This is life changing. There is nothing else that matters when we realized that we are loved and can then respond to that love with everything that in us.
